What we believe

How we think about the businesses we buy.

01

We buy a business for what it is, not what it might become.

The price we pay reflects the company as it stands today. We don't ask an owner to sell us their upside, and we don't bet the business on a turnaround. If a company needs to be fixed to be worth buying, it isn't for us.

02

A business is more than its cash flow.

The name over the door, the people who show up every day, the place it holds in its community. These are part of what we're buying, not overhead to be cut. We think the best businesses are worth continuing, not just owning.

03

We stay close.

We buy near where we live so we can be there in person. We are owners who show up, not a head office that reviews a report once a quarter. That is also why we intend to own a small number of businesses rather than a large one.

Who we are

We've run businesses of our own.

Gambit Holdings is run by operators, not investors. We have started, built, and run companies ourselves, and that experience shapes what we buy and how we own it.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

Who is Gambit Holdings?

A private company in Kitchener, Ontario, run by Ryan Burgio and Pat Belliveau, and an affiliate of Gambit Technology Inc. We buy businesses to own and operate them ourselves. We are not a brokerage, not a search fund, and not a private equity firm buying on someone else's behalf.

What kinds of businesses do you buy?

Established ones. Five or more years of steady operation, consistent profitability, and customers who genuinely need what the business does. We look within a few hours' drive of Kitchener-Waterloo because we intend to be there in person. We deliberately don't publish size ranges; the fastest way to find out whether your business fits is a short conversation.

Are you long-term owners, or will you sell the business later?

We buy to own and run. Our default is to hold, and we are not a fund with a clock, so nothing forces a sale. We won't promise forever to someone we've just met, because you'd be right not to believe it. What we can commit to is how we'll own it: personally, locally, and with the intention of continuing what you built.

What happens after I get in touch?

A conversation. We'll ask about the business, you'll ask about us, and we'll both say plainly whether it's worth another one. Nothing is signed, shared, or committed at that stage, and nothing moves faster than you want it to. If we're not the right buyer, we'll tell you early rather than waste your time.

Will my enquiry stay confidential?

Yes. Nothing reaches your staff, customers, or competitors without your permission, and we're glad to put that in writing before you share anything you consider sensitive.

Why sell to you instead of a larger buyer?

A larger buyer usually acquires a business to fold it into something else. We buy a business to keep running it. You deal directly with the two people who will own it, not a deal team, and the name over the door doesn't have to change.

Whether you're exploring a sale or just want to understand what one could look like.

A first conversation is confidential and commits you to nothing. Many of the owners we speak with are a year or more from any decision.
